Rotterdam resident (23) arrested for shooting that left dead and injured


A 23-year-old Rotterdam resident was arrested on Sunday afternoon on suspicion of involvement in a shooting on Aegidiusstraat in Rotterdam-Kralingen, in which a 22-year-old man from The Hague died on Friday evening. A 25-year-old man was injured in the leg in the shooting.

The Rotterdam resident reported to the police station on Overkampweg in Dordrecht on Sunday afternoon. He indicated that he had been involved in the shooting incident and was therefore immediately arrested. He is under complete restrictions and is only allowed to have contact with his lawyer. The suspect will be brought before the examining magistrate on Wednesday, who will decide whether he will remain in custody longer.

Shopping district

Two men were injured in the shooting on Lusthofstraat in Rotterdam-Kralingen on Friday evening around 8:15 PM. One of them, a 22-year-old man from The Hague, later died in a hospital. A 25-year-old man of no fixed abode was injured in the leg. The shooting took place in a shopping street, in front of a Hema branch.

Twenty detectives

A police helicopter circled above Kralingen for some time looking for the perpetrator(s). A TGO (Large-Scale Investigation Team) of at least 20 detectives has been started to determine the circumstances of the shooting incident. Police say the investigation is continuing and have not ruled out additional arrests.
