Rotterdam port company employees suspected of smuggling cocaine

Thirteen suspects were arrested at a company in Rotterdam’s Waalhaven on Tuesday, according to the Public Prosecution Service in Rotterdam, in an investigation into a container with cocaine that was on the company’s premises. The arrested suspects are all employees of the company. Eleven of them turned out to have nothing to do with the cocaine.

Two employees

Two employees of the company are still suspected. They will be brought before the examining magistrate on Friday. The company itself is not a suspect in the case.

The container in which the drugs were found originates from Honduras and arrived in Rotterdam by ship via the port of Antwerp on Saturday, March 25.

Belgian branch

Arrests were also made this week at the Belgian branch of the company, which, according to the OM, are not related to the investigation.

The HARC team, a partnership of Customs, FIOD, Seaport Police and the Public Prosecution Service in Rotterdam is investigating the case.
