Rotterdam police investigate internal misogynistic app group

The Rotterdam police are investigating the existence of a WhatsApp group in which nine police officers allegedly made misogynistic and sexist statements about colleagues. According to the police, this is an app group from the detainee duties team.

These employees, for example, search detainees, take photos and take DNA samples. The nine employees who are in dispute are all men.

Safety Integrity and Complaints

The decision on the investigation was made last week after the team management was notified of the existence of the WhatsApp group. The Safety Integrity and Complaints department is investigating the matter. The purpose of this is to make it clear what everyone’s role and contribution has been in the app group. Until more is clear, the nine police officers are not at work.

Through the dust

It is not the first time that the Rotterdam police has come into conflict with a WhatsApp group. In February 2021, five Rotterdam police officers from the Marconiplein station received a written reprimand for exchanging racist messages about their work.
