Nico Rosberg doesn’t understand why Lewis Hamilton had to make a comment about Max Verstappen’s teammates. The former Formula 1 driver agrees with the conclusion drawn by his former Mercedes teammate, but he finds it strange that Hamilton is trying to bring down Verstappen’s dominance in this way. Rosberg believes the Red Bull Racing driver is performing brilliantly and is quickly rising to the level of the sport’s greats.
Hamilton has explained that he doesn’t understand that Verstappen seems to be receiving more plaudits for his dominance. The Mercedes driver indicated that he has had much better teammates at the German racing team than Verstappen at Red Bull. The reigning world champion thinks Hamilton is jealous of Red Bull’s current success. Rosberg does not want to go that far, but does not understand his former teammate’s comments. It’s strange that Lewis talks about that. Where does that come from? It’s a bit strange,” says the German at Sky Sports.
Rosberg was not initially named by Hamilton, possibly due to the soured relationship between the two world champions. Although Rosberg does not understand why Hamilton made these comments, he agrees with the seven-time world champion. “He had three world champions as teammates. That says a lot, doesn’t it? So I think it’s correct. Nevertheless, it’s not really relevant, because we all know how great Max drives.’
Rosberg: ‘Verstappen will be one of the best five drivers of all time’
The single-time world champion therefore does not think it matters that Verstappen has had lesser teammates than Hamilton. The Dutchman can book his tenth win in a row at Monza and thus take the record for the most wins in a row. Rosberg therefore already ranks the Red Bull driver among the greats of Formula 1. ‘Max is heading towards the same level as Hamilton, Schumacher, Senna. He will be one of the best five drivers of all time,” Rosberg concluded.
