Ricciardo offers update on work at Red Bull: ‘It’s mainly about being a team player’

Daniel Ricciardo has offered an update on what his 2023 looks like via LinkedIn. The Australian has been appointed as Red Bull Racing’s third driver after his departure from McLaren. That means the 33-year-old is mainly busy behind the scenes and it is the first time in a long time that Ricciardo has changed his priorities in that area.

“This is the first year I can remember that my goals are not 100 percent about racing and competition,” the multiple Grand Prix winner writes on his LinkedIn account. That leaves room for other priorities in life. “While there are still elements of it, this year is about something different and I have room for a separate set of goals to focus on.”

Ricciardo explains what exactly is different from previous years. “From a professional point of view, this year is mainly about being a team player at Red Bull. I’m back in an environment and ultimately a family that I have a lot of fond memories of and it feels really good to be back there. But this year it’s not about me, it’s about the wider team and trying to contribute and help them where I can.”

Ricciardo is working on self-confidence at Red Bull

As mentioned earlier, contributing to Red Bull mainly goes behind the scenes. “I focus on getting into the simulator, getting to know their car and working on the development,” says Ricciardo of his work at Milton Keynes. “That’s how I develop my skills, my confidence and my fun behind the wheel.”

Ricciardo could use some of that confidence, as his last few years in Formula 1 have not been the easiest. “The past few years have been tough years professionally, so there’s an element of competition in me that wants to remind people that I’m still here, I’m still a professional and I’m still contributing to success.”
