Now that the temperatures are finally on the rise, the summer outfits are back. Maybe you even scored a new outfit (or more)… high time to look fresh and fruity, without too much hassle. Washing and ironing all your clothes might be a bit much. And also bad for the environment. NL News Anke wondered if it could be done differently. She therefore tested the Philips Stand Steamer 3000 clothes steamer. Is it worth it? Read the pros and cons about her here…

My situation

I think it’s good to realize who’s writing this, it puts some context to this story. No woman is the same, even though I know very few who consider cleaning and washing to be their hobbies. In that respect I am perhaps a bit like the average woman, and perhaps even a little less tidy. I almost never iron (too much hassle) and I do laundry a maximum of one day a week (also too much hassle). I once had a domestic help, but he didn’t like ironing either. As a result, I sometimes wear wrinkled clothes or choose a different piece of clothing. It’s really just not my favorite thing to do.

And yet I test this Philips Stand Steamer 3000. Why, you ask. Simple: I received a press release that described the clothes steamer so beautifully, it piqued my interest. Could this device make my life easier? In addition, the Stand Steamer 3000 also appears to be quite durable and I ‘go on’ to that. So: bring on this experiment!

Philips Steamer 3000 is durable

More steaming = less washing. And washing less is better for the environment. In addition to de-wrinkling, the clothes steamer also refreshes your clothes and removes odors by killing up to 99.9% of bacteria. With the MyEssence infuser you can also add your favorite scent. All together that means fewer washes, which is more sustainable for the environment and of course also better for your clothes.

I don’t dare say anything about the energy consumption, because I have not measured that. I do dare to say that this costs less than, for example, a washing machine; after all, it takes half to three hours to get your clothes clean and has to see a heavy drum spinning at high speed. Yes, the Stand Steamer ‘only’ does one piece of clothing at a time, if you need a few, the minutes will add up. And yet the energy consumption will still prove minute compared to the washing machine.

And did you know that you can also steam furniture upholstery, curtains and fabric toys with it? Handy, handy, handy, so to speak.

Well, is it really that useful?

Absolute. Let me start at the beginning: installing this clothes cleaner. I received a pretty big box, say ‘ikea style’. There were quite a few parts that had to be clicked together. Fortunately not with the same Allen key from Ikea: this can be assembled without tools. The box also contains a practical manual, which guided me through the construction within minutes. Child can do the laundry (steam).

You put the liquids in the reservoir, plug it in, and go with that banana. I immediately grabbed my satin shirt, placed it on the tilting board, set the device to position two, wait a moment and… yes, yes. After a minute, the Stand Steamer had heated up and I started steaming on my garment. Thanks to the tiltable ironing board, the ‘StyleBoard’, you press your garment between the steam plate and the board, as it were. And that’s how you seem to get the best result from hem to hem.

Speaking of that StyleBoard: I must admit that I rarely used its full option in practice. You can compare it to a short ironing board, but for steaming. What makes the Philips shelf slightly different from others is that it can tilt in two different positions. From completely vertical to an angle of approximately 45 degrees. There are probably reasons to like that very much, but I have mainly limited myself to the angle of 45 degrees. In practice, I didn’t feel the need to tip (which sucks, because it’s the Unique Selling Point of this product).

Philips Stand Steamer price

The Philips Stand Steamer 3000 has a suggested retail price of 179.99 euros and is therefore just above average if you look at comparable clothing steamers of the same size and design. An excellent price, therefore, competitive with the rest. Bol currently also offers it for 194.99 euros

Conclusion

You have clothes steamers in many shapes and sizes. They vary from very luxurious to small steamers that resemble refined plant sprayers. You shouldn’t compare apples with oranges. Are you looking for a clothes steamer for regular use, one that doesn’t take up too much space if you put it aside for a while? And do you think it’s important that you always have a surface to steam against? Then the Philips Stand Steamer could be something for you. Don’t be under any illusions; it doesn’t turn you into a cleaning princess, that’s how I found out. But it is definitely a product with a nice gun factor.
