The man found guilty of the murder of rapper Nipsey Hussle has been sentenced to at least 60 years in prison, according to American media. Eric R. Holder (32) shot and killed the rapper – real name Ermias Asghedom – in front of Hussle’s clothing store in South Los Angeles in 2019. Nipsey Hussle was 33 years old at the time.
Profession
Holder was found guilty of murder and two counts of attempted murder against two bystanders injured in the shooting last July after a months-long trial. He was ineligible for the death penalty and was widely expected to receive a life sentence. Holder wore orange prison clothes and did not respond when his sentence was read. His lawyer said he plans to appeal the verdict.
impulse
Prosecutors said at the murder trial that Holder fired with premeditation while Holder’s defense team claimed it was done on the spur of the moment. Holder’s lawyer said his client was enraged by a conversation he had with Hussle about rumors that Holder made statements to the police (“paperwork”).
Holder, after arguing with Hussle, returned after several minutes to fire the fatal shots. Hussle was hit by at least ten bullets. Holder then kicked him in the head and fled in a car. He was out that day with a girlfriend who was driving the car.
Holder was known as a member of the violent youth gang the Crips.
Marathon Clothing
Hussle grew up in South Los Angeles, where he was a member of the Rollin’ 60s street gang as a teenager. He opened Marathon Clothing in South Los Angeles as a way to invest in his community. Before his death, he had contacted the Los Angeles Police Department to discuss ways to help fight gang violence in the area.
Nipsey Hussle was posthumously awarded two Grammy awards in 2020. He had two children with actress Lauren London.
