Rapper Joey AK, real name Joël H. (25), is wanted in Suriname because of a shooting on August 15 at a gas station in Paramaribo. The website of the Suriname Police Force states that he is suspected of attempted murder or attempted manslaughter; attempted aggravated premeditated assault; attempted aggravated assault; participation in a criminal organization; destruction and violation of the Firearms Act. Various media reports that the rapper would have been involved in a shooting. The rapper was in Suriname in August for his grandmother’s funeral.

Gas station

Some men allegedly shot at each other at a gas station in the center of Paramaribo. When police arrived, the men had already fled in several vehicles. Bullet casings and traces of impact were found on the street in the area. Various media reports that one of those involved would have been Joey AK.

The police are also looking for a co-defendant in the case: Chivano A. (23, aka “Smoko”).

When H. was on his way to Suriname this summer, more than 6,000 euros in cash was taken from him by Customs at Schiphol. According to JoeyAK, the money, which was found in a suitcase, was intended for a funeral in Suriname. The Dutch authorities suspect money laundering of criminal money.

Requirements

Joël H. has been released under certain conditions since this summer. He has served a 40-month prison sentence (after a five-year sentence) for co-organizing the kidnapping and assault of a woman in front of her two young children. The woman is said to have stolen money from the rapper. The Public Prosecution Service has appealed.

H. has restraining orders for parts of Amsterdam. He was also not allowed to travel, but did receive separate permission to attend his grandmother’s funeral in Suriname.

Dutch police

Lawyer Jan-Hein Kuijpers has confirmed to Het Parool that ‘gossip and backbiting about a shooting are circulating’ in Suriname. Kuijpers says that H. states that he had nothing to do with it. H. is probably back in the Netherlands. Kuijpers says that the rapper is willing to report to the Dutch police.

After his release, Joël H. gave an interview in which he said he was being seriously threatened.
