PSV says goodbye to Director of Football Affairs John de Jong after four years

PSV officially said goodbye to Football Affairs Director John de Jong on Friday evening. Due to a crisis of confidence, the two sides could no longer continue working together.

PSV will let you know via the official channels. De Jong is thanked for 22 years of loyal service. “PSV and Football Affairs Director John de Jong have immediately dissolved the continuous employment contract,” PSV writes. ‘PSV would like to thank John de Jong, who in the past was also a player, scout and chief scout in Eindhoven, for his efforts in the past 22 seasons.’

On the club site, General Director Marcel Brands explains why PSV is breaking with De Jong. “After a hectic last week of the transfer window, I had an evaluation with the Supervisory Board. This revealed that there has been a unanimous breach of confidence in the Supervisory Board with regard to John de Jong’s performance,” says Brands.

“The management has always remained a unit,” Brands continues. “Both during the transfer window and afterwards, but for John personally it has been a reason to think about his future. After a few days of reflection, John indicated that an indispensable form of backup has been lost for him. We have settled the case concluded with the utmost respect and sincerely wish John all the best.”

De Jong himself also responds to the decision. “I have always put PSV’s sporting ambition first in everything, with an eye to the financial health of the club. Every decision taken this summer had the support of the entire management. This staff and selection are able to make a successful season. As a PSV player, I have spent almost half of my life working at the club in various roles. I will continue to cherish that,” concludes De Jong.
