PostNL issues stamps in honor of the tenth anniversary of the throne of King Willem-Alexander. The bright orange stamps feature photographs of a number of important moments in his reign.
The sheet has five stamps showing photos of the King’s Games in 2019, the state visit to Indonesia in 2020, working visits to the Netherlands Institute of Ecology in Wageningen in 2022 and to Sint Maarten in 2013, and the Speech from the Throne in 2022.
On the edge of the sheet is a crown consisting of quotes from speeches by the king, including his speech on Dam Square on 4 May 2020.
‘He’s approachable’
Graphic designers Huub de Lang and Anne Schaufeli of studio026 from Velp made the design. They have taken into account the personality of the king, they say. “King Willem-Alexander is approachable, open to people and likes to make contact easily,” says Schaufeli.
“It is not a representative, chronological overview of ten years of kingship, but an ode to how King Willem-Alexander gave substance to it. And still does.”
The stamps are available from today. It is exactly ten years ago on April 30 that Willem-Alexander succeeded his mother Beatrix.
