Rotterdam – On Thursday, February 16, a 17-year-old boy from Rotterdam was arrested for possession of a fake firearm that looked very similar to a real firearm. This is almost impossible to see from a distance, which is why it is forbidden to walk down the street with fake firearms. The fake firearm has been seized. The boy was sent back after a good conversation and receiving a fine.

On Thursday afternoon, a reporter saw two boys riding a scooter on the Coolsingel in Rotterdam. The co-driver was holding an object resembling a firearm. Agents immediately went to the scene and arrested the 17-year-old Rotterdammer on suspicion of possession of firearms. It later turned out that it was a fake firearm that the boy had bought for carnival. It’s hard to see from a distance. Because it is so difficult to judge whether such a weapon is real or fake, it is not allowed to walk around with it on the street. A fake weapon can be seen as a threat by others. Fake firearms promote dangerous situations: if a fake firearm is indistinguishable from a real firearm, officers always act as if it were a real firearm. Having a fake firearm at home is allowed, but leave them at home and never take them outside!

The fake firearm has been seized. The boy was sent home the same afternoon after a good conversation and with a ticket for disturbing public order.
