Breda – The police arrested a 53-year-old Breda resident red-handed for bicycle theft at the hospital on the Molengracht this morning during a post-action. Officers kept an eye on the bicycles parked there this morning because at least four electric bicycles with a value of thousands of euros each have been stolen this year.
The police of the Markdal team posted this morning, Wednesday, April 12, 2023, due to recent bicycle thefts at the hospital. Around 09:30 they saw a man walking at the entrance who also came into the picture afterwards in an earlier bicycle theft. They decided to keep an eye on him. They saw him saunter from the main entrance to the bus shelter. Moments later, the officers saw that he was suspiciously hanging out with a bicycle. They saw him bend down and perform actions at the lock and then ride away on that bicycle. They then stopped him.
The electric bicycle turned out to be owned by a woman from Teteringen. She was in the hospital with her husband. The suspect, known to police, was arrested. Some tools and also a canister of tear gas and a stun gun were found in his clothing. Three more bicycles were seized at his home, of which at least two were stolen.
