Northern Netherlands – The leadership of the Northern Netherlands police has fired two employees from the Drenthe district. They are guilty of serious dereliction of duty.

Investigating two employees
In June 2022, the Security, Integrity and Complaints team (VIK) was instructed to conduct an investigation into the behavior of an employee due to a suspicion of serious dereliction of duty, related to relationships.

In November 2022, VIK was instructed to investigate another employee on suspicion of serious dereliction of duty in the private sphere. The two cases are separate and have been investigated as such.

Both disciplinary investigations show that the employees were guilty of serious dereliction of duty. After studying the facts and circumstances, it appears that the nature and seriousness of the behavior of both employees are such that, according to the police, only one sanction can follow, and that is unconditional dismissal. During the investigation, the employees stopped working. With the issuance of the decision, the dismissal is final.

Integrity
The dereliction of duty by the dismissed employees was committed outside working hours and therefore does not concern official acts. But also in private time, police officers are expected to behave in a socially responsible and morally impeccable manner. If you work for the police, you have an exemplary function. Police work is human work and people can make mistakes. We have to learn from that, but dereliction of duty has consequences. The police therefore carefully investigate reports of serious dereliction of duty and punish where necessary.
