Police investigate gas explosion in building at Gijenham in Oosterwolde

Oosterwolde – The police are investigating a gas explosion, which took place on Saturday, March 11, around 6:00 p.m. in a house on Gijenham in Oosterwolde. A 26-year-old man from Oosterwolde has been arrested on suspicion of involvement in the explosion. An investigation must show whether the suspect has shown culpable behaviour. While evacuating the complex, the police came across a small cannabis nursery in another home.

Roll on explosion
A 21-year-old man from Oosterwolde was injured in the explosion. He was eventually taken to hospital. The 26-year-old man, who was arrested, will be heard today about his role in the explosion.

Various emergency services
The building where the explosion took place was heavily damaged. Because different emergency services had to work together, it was scaled up to GRIP1. The complex was evacuated by the fire brigade and the Fryslân Security Region. Residents have been taken care of elsewhere. After an investigation by experts, it appears that the building is unsafe for now. Replacement housing will be arranged for local residents.

Small hemp farm
During the evacuation, the police came across a small cannabis nursery in another home. As soon as the situation in the building is safe, the police will also investigate the found cannabis farm.
