Police investigate accident on the A1

Amersfoort – An accident took place between a truck and several passenger cars on Thursday evening, January 11, around 5 p.m. Two victims with injuries were taken to hospital. The driver of the truck has been arrested.

Around 5 p.m., a truck with a trailer drove into the back of a number of passenger cars. This happened on the A1 motorway near Amersfoort. The impact then caused two passenger cars to catch fire. Fortunately, bystanders who saw the accident quickly came to help. They pulled two victims from the burning vehicles, while the emergency services rushed to the accident en masse.

Victims

Two victims were taken to hospital with injuries, a 26-year-old man from Rotterdam and a 63-year-old woman from Ede. The 63-year-old woman was in serious condition. Fortunately, the condition of both victims is now stable.

The 53-year-old driver of the truck was arrested on suspicion of causing a traffic accident with injuries. The man was interrogated and subsequently sent away. His truck has been seized for additional investigation. The circumstances are being further investigated.
