The police arrested a fugitive Greek in a house in Bleiswijk (near Zoetermeer) on Friday afternoon. The 37-year-old man is a suspect in a large-scale drug investigation in Romania, in which his involvement in the import of 1500 kilos of heroin is being investigated.
House arrest
The man previously lived in the Netherlands and was surrendered to Romania in 2021. During his house arrest there while awaiting trial, he fled Romania again and fled to the Netherlands.
Last week, the FASTNL team (specialized in tracing fugitives) received information from Bucharest that the man was in the Netherlands and requested FASTNL from the National Unit to conduct the search.
DSI
In collaboration with the Romanian police, the Greek was tracked down and arrested in a home in Bleiswijk. Because the suspect may be a firearms hazard, the Special Interventions Service (DSI) has made the arrest.
The court in Amsterdam will soon decide on his extradition to Romania.
