Police find driver under the influence and in possession of hard drugs in Beverwijk

Beverwijk – The police arrested a 22-year-old man from Zaandam on Tuesday, January 16, after he was under the influence of hard drugs. The man was also found to be in possession of a large amount of hard drugs. The driver has now been released and will have to answer later.

Around 8:50 p.m., the police received a report that a motorist was exhibiting unusual driving behavior on the Beneluxlaan in Beverwijk. After officers spotted the driver, they saw that the man almost rammed several cars. Based on this striking driving behavior, the driver was stopped. According to protocol, an alcohol and drug test was then administered to the man. This test showed that he was under the influence of hard drugs. The 22-year-old man was subsequently arrested. When moving his vehicle, officers found more than 130 different types of hard drugs. Hundreds of euros in cash were also found.

The hard drugs and money have been seized and the police are investigating.

Driving under the influence of drugs

Drugs in traffic are absolutely taboo. This applies to all hard and soft drugs. This also applies to ‘party drugs’ such as XTC and amphetamine. Driving under the influence of drugs poses a risk to road safety, with the driver, passengers and other road users running the risk of being (seriously) injured. The police can demonstrate drug use through a saliva test and/or blood test. As a suspected driver, you must cooperate in this.
