Nieuwdorp – Police officers arrested two burglars in the night of Friday 17 to Saturday 18 February 2023. It concerns two Albanians who had entered a port area. They appeared to have made a hole in the fence. It is still unknown what they intended to do on site.
Shortly after midnight, the police received a report that security staff had seen two burglars on a port site. Various police units surrounded the site and used police dogs to search for the suspects. Around 1 a.m. they were able to arrest the first suspect, a 46-year-old man from Albania. Shortly afterwards, service dog Robin found the second suspect, a 40-year-old man from Albania. Both men were arrested and taken to the station for further investigation. There it turned out that the 40-year-old suspect is under international arrest and is not allowed to enter Europe. Police officers of the Department of Aliens Police, Identification and Human Trafficking (AVIM) will get to work on this. This police unit investigates the identity and residence status of foreign nationals. The department also investigates larger-scale crime, such as human trafficking, people smuggling and identity fraud.
