Police arrest teenager in Alkmaar after another discovery of explosive

Police have arrested a 19-year-old man after the discovery of an explosive. The explosive was found in front of a house on Lekstraat in Alkmaar. It is the second attempt within 24 hours.

Around 10:30 PM, the police noticed that a motorist was behaving suspiciously. The car was checked and the 19-year-old man was arrested for attempted arson.

Another suspect managed to escape. A police helicopter and dog handlers searched for this person, but could not be found. The police reported this in a press release.

It has been restless in parts of Alkmaar for some time. Several streets, including Lekstraat, are now ‘safety risk areas’. Within such an area, people on the street can be preventively searched. There are also additional surveillance cameras in several places.
