Police arrest man for kidnapping Rotterdam imam

On Wednesday morning, a 28-year-old man from Delft was arrested in Berkel en Rodenrijs because he was possibly involved in the kidnapping of a 71-year-old deputy imam in Rotterdam at the end of January.

Van

On January 25, this man was pulled into a van by three men in the Zoutziederstraat in Rotterdam-West, just as he wanted to walk home from a mosque.

In the investigation into this kidnapping, a suspect was arrested on Tuesday, January 30, who was a 45-year-old man from Zwolle. He is also suspected of involvement in the kidnapping and is still in custody.

Released

The victim was released on February 10. In the morning of that day, the 71-year-old man arrived at the Rhoonse Baan just before 8:30 am. There he reported himself to officers who were there to handle another report.

He was taken to hospital for a health check. The investigation team then continued the investigation. The newly arrested suspect also emerged from that investigation. In the interest of the investigation, the police do not want to provide details about his role.

The police are looking for witnesses who saw where, how and by whom the man was dropped off on Saturday morning, February 10.

There have been several kidnappings in Rotterdam in the first months of this year.
