Middelburg – The police suspect four people of having committed shoplifting together. They would have done so on Thursday afternoon, February 16, 2024 in the center of Middelburg. The suspects have been arrested. They are a 43-year-old woman and a 24-year-old man, living in Yerseke and a 31-year-old man and a 33-year-old man, both without a fixed home address in our country.
Store employees had seen a number of people walking up and down in front of a store on Thursday afternoon and found empty coat hangers shortly afterwards. They went to investigate. At the height of the Market they saw a man walking who was in possession of two coats, which came out of the store. The man, later revealed to be a 24-year-old man from Yerseke, returned the coats and walked away in the direction of Lange Delft. On the way he was joined by a second man. In the meantime, the store staff had alerted the police. As they walked back towards the store, they noticed the two men coming after them. They also saw that two more people, a man and a woman, had joined the two. One of the men in the foursome threatened one of the store employees and kicked the other employee.
Stuff in the car
Police officers immediately launched an investigation into the foursome and were able to arrest the four shortly afterwards in several places in the center on suspicion of theft in association. The 33-year-old man is believed to be the one who kicked. He is therefore suspected of theft in conjunction with violence. After investigation, it turned out that a lot of stuff was lying in a car, with which the suspects probably came to Middelburg. The police suspect that these are stolen items and are investigating where they came from. These include perfume, tools and jewellery. The police seized the car and the items in it.
The four suspects were taken to Torentijd and put in jail. They’re still stuck.
