The outgoing cabinet wants to get rid of mega stables, but more and more are being added. This is evident from figures requested by the NOS. According to outgoing Agriculture Minister Adema, this type of agriculture no longer suits the Netherlands. Yet the reality is that the number of stables with large numbers of animals is only increasing and ironically this is precisely due to stricter nature requirements.
In this podcast, Thomas Spekschoor explains why this works and whether it is a problem, because the livestock as a whole is not growing. Thomas follows the agricultural and nitrogen dossier for the NOS and visited Maasbommel in Gelderland, where there are currently plans for three new mega stables.
