Nurse abused in BovenIJ hospital

Amsterdam – The police arrested a 32-year-old man on Thursday evening, March 14, on suspicion of attempted manslaughter of a nurse at the BovenIJ hospital in Amsterdam North.

Around 9:20 p.m., the police received a report of an incident from the BovenIJ hospital. A nurse was allegedly attacked by a man with a stabbing object. Thanks to the quick action of hospital staff and security, the man was overpowered and fortunately the nurse was not seriously injured. Police officers then arrested the suspect. The man was visiting the hospital, but refused to leave after staff informed him that the visiting time had expired. The man did not agree with this and started arguing. He then grabbed a stabbing object and attacked the nurse.

Unacceptable

Fortunately, the quick action of hospital staff and security prevented more serious incidents. The incident has had a huge impact on the victim and hospital staff. Aggression and violence against care providers is unacceptable. Emergency workers have a responsible role in society and must be able to do their work without hindrance. Aggression or violence, in any form, against emergency workers will not be tolerated. Reports are always recorded, perpetrators are brought to justice by the Public Prosecution Service as a priority, and a three times higher sentence is demanded against the perpetrators.
