Noppert remains icy calm after Orange call: 'Sobriety wins again'

Andries Noppert was told on Friday that he is definitively in the selection of Orange for the matches against Poland and Belgium. The SC Heerenveen goalkeeper is very happy that he has been called up, but he also knows how to keep his composure.

“This is of course a nice reward, but it is only now starting”, a proud Noppert tells Omrop Fryslan. “Of course this shows that I am on the right track, a better reward is almost impossible. At least I was not nervous myself today. I thought but no hey you, yes you can get it. And in the end it turned out to be yes Now let’s see what comes my way. I don’t have the faintest idea what the intention is, just start training and show myself well I think.”

Sobriety is what graces Noppert in his response. He is therefore not nervous to meet big boys like Memphis Depay and Frenkie de Jong. “I used to play with such players during computer games. Only if you look at it very black and white, then of course they just go to the same toilet as you and me. They are guys from big clubs, but then the sobriety wins again.”

Noppert is, together with Kenneth Taylor and Remko Pasveer (both Ajax), a debutant with the Dutch national team. Justin Bijlow was left out of the selection due to the election of the Frisian. Ryan Gravenberch was also not called up.
