Netflix revealed last afternoon what is coming to the streaming service this year. Now we already knew a number of things about it, but it also managed to provide the quickly flashing show reel with something new: images of Squid Game. The second season of the popular Korean series will be released this year and it was high time to see more of it.
Netflix in 2024
We don’t get much, because this this-is-coming-in-2024 video passes you by so quickly that the brain can hardly register it. But fortunately we are there, and we can tell you exactly which titles came up. For example, we once again saw the damsel in distress film Damsel, in which Millie Bobby Brown, as a princess, has to get away from a dragon because her in-laws want to sacrifice her. Then there is the action-comedy Back in Action, in which Cameron Diaz and Jamie Foxx go on an adventure together.
In addition to being a singer, Jennifer Lopez has already proven this in Maid in Manhattan and Anaconda, although we all mainly remember Hustlers, but she will soon appear in a sci-fi pic called Atlas. There is also a film with Jason Bateman that revolves around an agent who is blackmailed, where a package has to be maneuvered through customs during a packed Christmas flight.
Formula 1 fans are in good hands with Netflix this year. Not that it will broadcast the Formula 1 races (that would be something, although it does more with live sports these days, such as golf), but it will come with a documentary film about Senna and of course the new season of Drive to Survive. Avatar: The Last Airbender is coming, in which we see the anime come to life in live action form, and the movie Unfrosted has a big star cast: Jerry Seinfeld and Amy Schumer are in it, for example. Bridgerton will return for a third season and there will also be a war film from the perspective of a group of African-American women called Six Triple Eight. We also see the new Beverly Hills Cop flash by.
We see a little more of Squid Game, and that is nice, because the second season has been eagerly awaited for a long time. Squid Game is the Korean series in which people have to complete assignments and ultimately win a huge amount of money. It is a bit melancholy, but also very creative and exciting and that is what the second season promises to be. In any case, we see in the images that Netflix has now released that someone is being threatened Liam Neeson style on the phone: great.
Nice things are coming, although it is a shame that everything passes so quickly. We understand that Netflix probably wants it to leave you wanting more, but right now it feels a bit like breathing in something: it’s over so quickly that you have no idea what you’ve tasted. Anyway, in the end we say the same thing: we want more.
