The National Criminal Investigation Department is conducting an ‘exploratory’ investigation into the possible bribery of a judicial officer by Kasem, the newspaper reported on Thursday.
In addition to the National Criminal Investigation Department, the Judicial Institutions Agency (DJI), where the selection officer in question works, is also investigating the Kasem case. This is done by the Service Integrity Office. A spokeswoman for the Ministry of Justice and Security confirmed this to De Telegraaf.

According to the judiciary, the accusations do not yet have any consequences for the said official. The services know the name of the official who called Kasem ‘a student friend’ in a recorded conversation.

The recordings mentioned were most likely made by Peter R. de Vries. In the confidential conversations, Kasem allegedly admitted that during his time as a criminal lawyer he bribed an official in order to get a client released earlier. The client states that he has paid 8,000 euros to be released early.
