Mike Verweij outlines that Maurice Steijn ‘really has no idea what he gets split into his stomach’ at Ajax. According to the De Telegraaf journalist, the coach was not involved in the transfer policy of the Amsterdam top club.
Ajax brought twelve players to Amsterdam: Branco van den Boomen, Josip Sutalo, Jakov Medic, Gaston Avila, Carlos Forbs, Diant Ramaj, Benjamin Tahirovic, Chuba Akpom, Georges Mikautadze, Sivert Mannsverk, Anton Gaaei and Borna Sosa. “Steijn really wanted to go to Ajax, of course he had not trained any big clubs yet. I dare say that Peter Bosz would never have let this happen. Then he would have left. You don’t let twelve players split in the stomach where you have no say in it?” Verweij wonders in De Telegraaf’s Kick-Off podcast.
“There are a few players he wanted,” Verweij continues. “Noa Lang is one of them, Thiago Almada too. I think if you had asked him if he wanted Jerdy Schouten, he would have said yes. It is also known that he wanted Nick Olij from Sparta. They are just wishes from a trainer who is fairly easy to comply with, but Mislintat just doesn’t do it.”
