Middelburg – Destroying his own car cost a 20-year-old Middelburg dear last night. The police responded to the report and arrested him for various offences. He is suspected of driving a car under the influence of drugs. In addition, he does not have a valid driver’s license and a bottle containing suspected laughing gas and various balloons were found in the vehicle.
The police received a report around 2:50 am on Saturday, September 9, 2023, that a car had been destroyed in the parking lot on Kruitmolenlaan. At the scene, officers saw two men standing near a car whose rear window was shattered. The hood was dented and had several shoe marks on it. The left front tire was also punctured and the rim dented. One of the men, a 20-year-old man from Middelburg, identified himself as the owner and told the officers that he had committed the destruction himself out of anger because of the broken tire.
There were several balloons in the vehicle. There was a (laughing) gas cylinder in the trunk. The Middelburger said that the damage to the rim was caused by hitting a sidewalk. As a driver, he had driven his car a few laps in the parking lot. However, he does not have a driving license B. A saliva test also showed that he was under the influence of cannabis. He was arrested for various offences. A doctor at the office took blood samples to determine the level of drug use
