Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris still see it positively, despite the fact that McLaren has admitted that it has made a big mistake with the car. On Thursday and Friday, the team was therefore not strong and the British team found out that they really still have a lot of work to do if they want to get the car on track in Bahrain.
Despite the problems with the car and the MCL60’s disappointing performance in winter testing so far, McLaren CEO Zak Brown said there is no need to panic. The American stated that they still had to get to know the car well. That is what the drivers have been working on on Friday. “It was a productive day for everyone on the team,” said Norris in a press release. “I tested a lot on a number of different setups as planned, and we also put in a solid number of laps, which is positive.”
The Briton finished his second day of testing in sixteenth, but is still in a good mood. “I’m looking forward to getting started in tomorrow’s afternoon session and finalizing the schedule of our runs,” said the McLaren driver. “There is still a long season to go,” Norris continues in front of the Formula 1 microphone. “We know we have a lot of work to do, but the team has the right motivation to get it done.”
Piastri: ‘We are going in the right direction’
Norris’ teammate Piastri is also looking on the bright side. After all, he clocked the ninth fastest time on Friday. The fact that there is still a lot to be done in the garage of the British racing stable seems to motivate the Australian. “It was a solid day for the team and everything went smoothly. Today’s session has taught me more about the car and I feel like I’m getting better with every lap,” Piastri explained. “We are moving in the right direction, which is nice to see on day two of the test. I’m looking forward to getting back out on track in tomorrow morning’s session,” said the McLaren driver.
