Marko crystal clear about Aston Martin rumors: 'That makes no sense'

Helmut Marko does not believe that Mercedes will give better engines to Aston Martin in the fight against Red Bull Racing. After the Bahrain Grand Prix it was rumored that Mercedes would consider providing the British customer team with a better engine, but that sounds like nonsense to Marko’s ears.

Red Bull Racing’s motorsport chief responds to the German F1 Insider on the rumors surrounding Aston Martin and Mercedes. The customer team is currently doing better than the top team and that would be reason to give a better engine to Aston Martin in the fight against Red Bull. “Why would Mercedes make a competitor stronger?” Marko wonders, however.

According to the Austrian, ‘that makes no sense’. “Despite all the cooperation in Formula 1, Aston Martin is ultimately a competitor for Mercedes in the passenger car field. Mercedes will now do everything they can to forget the disappointing season opener for them. There is certainly no room to help Aston Martin with this ambitious goal.’

AlphaTauri team boss agrees with Marko’s words

AlphaTauri team boss Franz Tost agrees with compatriot Marko’s words. According to him, it is not even allowed that Aston Martin has better engines than Mercedes. “The rumors are nonsense. The regulations clearly dictate to the engine manufacturers that all customers must receive the same material. And as far as I know everyone adheres to it. A preference for a team is therefore forbidden and unrealistic.’
