Marko absolutely not afraid of Mercedes:

Helmut Marko enjoys the dominance of Red Bull Racing and Max Verstappen. The driver of the Austrian racing stable managed to win in Spain with force majeure, so that Red Bull has still won all races this season. Marko saw that Verstappen again managed to distinguish himself with several actions last weekend. Mercedes also managed to distinguish itself due to the two podium places, but the Red Bull advisor thinks that the German racing stable is not yet a danger.

After the race, Marko was of course very enthusiastic about Verstappen’s performance. After the Dutchman shook off Carlos Sainz at the start, he could start working on winning his third Grand Slam in Formula 1. ‘You also saw how Max drove the fastest lap with old tires at the end. It’s, as they say, like he’s from another planet right now,” says Marko at oe24. “He has achieved a superiority that we have never seen before.”

The Red Bull advisor can enjoy the fact that Verstappen still wanted to drive the fastest race lap, but Gianpiero Lambiase, the race engineer of the two-time world champion, was less happy. There was a penalty hanging over the head of the Red Bull driver. ‘That’s Max, you can’t get that out of him. He always has to push himself to the limit, as the warning for exceeding the track limits showed. That’s what sets a real winner apart from the rest: he always delivers.’

Marko is not losing sleep over Mercedes’ step

Behind Verstappen, Lewis Hamilton and George Russell respectively crossed the line. Mercedes therefore seems to have taken a step, but Marko nuances that. “The updates from our competitors have only caused a shift. Without wanting to be arrogant: they haven’t really gotten any closer, they just took over another team’s turn,” the Austrian refers to Aston Martin. “That’s good for us again, because our lead in the world championship is growing after every race,” concludes Marko.
