Marengo trial appeal: Onno de Jong puts down Nabil B.’s defense

Key witness Nabil B. (36) has to look for a new lawyer in the Marengo trial. Onno de Jong has resigned from his legal assistance. That’s what Het Parool writes. The appeal in the Marengo trial will begin on Monday before the Amsterdam court.

Heated conflict

It is unclear why De Jong stops defending his client Nabil B., but according to the newspaper there is a heated conflict with the Public Prosecution Service. De Jong himself does not want to say anything about it. It is also not clear what this means for the first pro forma hearing of the appeal, which starts today in the Schiphol Judicial Complex.

Penalty reduction

Nabil B. was sentenced by the court to ten years in prison after a reduced sentence in exchange for the incriminating statements he made. B. nevertheless appealed against his conviction.

An appeal has been lodged in fourteen of the seventeen suspects. In the Marengo liquidation process, life sentences were imposed on Ridouan Taghi (46), Saïd Razzouki (51) and Mario R. (44) on February 27. All three appealed.
