Marco Schuitmaker was born to sing, he says. He gets his musical performance from his mother, who is part of a singing duo. His father is not musical, but used to write lyrics for his wife. As a child, Marco would occasionally stand in front of the TV and sing along with Jan Smit. How nice is it that those two have a hit together with the song ‘Van Goes tot Purmerend’ and are now also friends!
When Marco was 8, he took part in a talent show in Musselkanaal. He performed a song by Marlous Oosting, When he plays the piano at night. But little Marco suddenly forgot the text and burst into tears. “I wanted to do so well,” he says afterwards. Because they felt so sorry for the little guy, luckily he was allowed to sing the song again afterwards. We now know what resulted from it: with ‘Guardian Angel’ Marco has scored a hit that is unprecedented!
