Man unnecessarily calls 911 dozens of times and is arrested

Haarlem – In a short time, a 52-year-old resident of Haarlem called emergency number 112 45 times to swear at the dispatchers. He has been arrested.

If 112 is called unnecessarily, this means that there are fewer or no lines available for emergencies. The man had previously been warned and addressed about his behavior. A home visit by the police also did not change his mind. He was finally arrested on March 27 at half past eight in the evening.

Every report received by 112 is taken seriously as an emergency. If it turns out otherwise, the caller will be informed and we will look at how someone can be helped in another way. The link below explains when 112 can be called.

The man is suspected of the following offense:

Article 142 paragraph 2 of the Criminal Code
Anyone who intentionally uses an emergency number for public services without there being a need to do so shall be punished with a prison sentence of not more than three months or a fine of the third category.
