Man dies after shooting in Amsterdam coffee shop

A man died following a shooting in the Green Place coffee shop on Kloveniersbrugwal in the center of Amsterdam on Sunday evening. The victim was rushed to hospital by ambulance, where he later died of his injuries.

The report of the shooting on the Kloveniersbrugwal (adjacent to the Nieuwmarkt) came in around 10:20 PM. AT5 reports that the victim was hit in a critical spot and was taken to hospital in a life-threatening condition. He later died in hospital from his injuries.

The crime scene has been cordoned off. The police and forensic investigation are conducting an investigation on site.

Arrest

Two suspects allegedly fled in a car in the direction of Damstraat. One suspect has now been arrested. The police reported on Monday that the suspect was arrested just across the border in Germany in collaboration with the East Netherlands police, National Unit and the German police.

The police are further investigating the case. There is no information yet about what led to the shooting.

In 2016, coffee shop Green Place on the Kloveniersbrugwal was closed for a while after the building came under fire at night by a man on a scooter.
