Assen – On Monday, April 17, a 30-year-old man from the municipality of Noordenveld was arrested on suspicion of involvement in the death of patients in the Wilhelmina Hospital in Assen (WZA) during the corona pandemic. The arrested suspect was working as a nurse in this hospital during that period.

The suspect will be brought before the examining magistrate today. Restrictions have been imposed on him. This means that he can only have contact with his lawyer for the time being.

Criminal investigation

The arrest is the result of a criminal investigation initiated by the police and the Public Prosecution Service in the Northern Netherlands following a report by the WZA to the police. Further investigation should reveal exactly what happened. This requires great care.

The police and OM understand that this message raises questions. However, due to the restrictions placed on the suspect, we are unable to share more information at this time. In addition, this could harm the investigation. Those directly involved have been informed by the police.
