Man arrested in Amstelveen after reporting a suspicious package


Amstelveen – The police arrested a suspect in Amstelveen on Thursday afternoon, March 28, after a report that the man was carrying a suspicious package.

Around 1 p.m., a report came in that someone had boarded a Connexxion bus at Schiphol with a suspicious package, possibly an explosive. Based on the nature of the report and reporter, various police units were immediately scaled up and various police units were alerted and controlled from the control room. The police helicopter, among other things, kept a continuous view of the bus. After contacting the bus driver in question, the bus was stopped at the bus stop at Meander in Amstelveen. Officers then cordoned off the area around the bus.

A description of the suspect was known. Based on this description, the suspect could be located on the bus. The occupants were then talked out of the bus and the suspect was arrested by the arrest team when leaving the bus. After all occupants had left the bus, specialist units examined the bus and found the suspicious package. It turned out not to be an explosive. The arrested man, 67 years old from The Hague, remains a suspect in the case and will be interrogated.
