Man arrested after nighttime explosion in Amsterdam


The police arrested a man on the night of Wednesday to Thursday, suspected of involvement in an explosion in the capital earlier that night.

Bang

At 00.45 loud bangs were heard in the Charlotte Brontéstraat in Amsterdam-Zuidoost. There appeared to be an explosion in a porch house, the police reported on Thursday. The explosion caused a small fire, which was extinguished by the fire brigade. A pregnant resident suffered from smoke inhalation, after which she was taken to hospital for a check-up.

Arrested

Due to instructions from residents, a 29-year-old Amsterdam resident was arrested shortly after the incident in the Hoorneboeg area. The man had a firearm and a knife. He has been detained for further investigation, the police said.
