Goes, Steenbergen – A 34-year-old man from Bergen op Zoom was arrested on Wednesday, May 31. He would have broken a window in Goes and stolen a van. He was arrested after a chase in Steenbergen.

At around 3:50 p.m., the police received a report that a man had destroyed a window in Amundsenweg. He then fled in a van. A short time later, ANPR (automatic number plate recognition) reports that the van is driving on the A58 near Rilland. Police units see the vehicle traveling at high speed and give chase. The driver ignores the stop sign and takes the exit to Steenbergen on the A4. The man’s driving behavior causes dangerous situations by, among other things, driving on bicycle paths. He also tries to push the police vehicle off the road. On the Corneliusstraat in Steenbergen, the driver stops and gets out. Even then he does not immediately cooperate with his arrest. The officers use pepper spray and the stun gun to get the man under control. He is detained for further investigation into the destruction, the theft of the van, his driving behavior and possible driving under the influence.
