A 42-year-old man from Heeswijk-Dinther was arrested by the police on Sunday evening at the Westergasterrein in Amsterdam. He carried a firearm with him when he wanted to visit a martial arts gala.
Security guards from the martial arts event Levels Fight League found a firearm in the man during the search. The security then called the police, after which the suspect was arrested.
Flash grenade
The firearm, including cartridges, has been seized. During the search of the suspect’s hotel room in a hotel in Westpoort, the police found a flashbang, or a flash grenade, which falls under the category of heavy illegal fireworks.
The suspect is still in custody, awaiting a decision from the public prosecutor.
