Amsterdam – In the night from Saturday 22 to Sunday 23 April 2023, a 21-year-old man becomes the victim of an assault on De Ruijterkade, on the west side of Amsterdam Central Station. The suspects, a group of several young people, hit him out of the blue with bicycle chains and belts. The victim suffers a severe concussion and has welts, bumps and bruises all over the body. The police are investigating this assault and would like to get in touch with any witnesses, especially people who have photo and video footage of this horribly violent incident.
Around 04:30 am, the victim approaches the taxi stand on De Ruijterkade. There he is assaulted by a group of about ten young people, after the victim has spoken briefly with an as yet unknown woman. Despite the fact that this woman tries in vain to stop the group of young people, the victim fears for his life for some time. Fortunately, the police quickly arrive on the scene and the victim can be brought to safety. Unfortunately, the group has broken up and the perpetrators run in all directions. The police are now urgently looking for them.

The assault is believed to have been filmed by bystanders. We therefore urge them to share those images with the investigation team, in order to further the investigation and hopefully find out the identities of those responsible as soon as possible.
