Makaay sees former neighbor revive at Ajax:

Roy Makaay sees that Calvin Bassey is doing better at Ajax. The two worked together at Rangers FC and even lived side by side in Glasgow. Makaay now sees that the smile is back on Bassey’s face.

Ajax visited Vitesse on Sunday and Bassey participated in the entire second half. He came out fine in Arnhem. “Of course I’m not unbiased about him,” Makaay begins at ESPN about Bassey. “I had a great time working with Calvin last year, he was also my neighbor in Glasgow.”

“I saw him shine again and that is the Bassey I know: a smiling Calvin. When he smiles, he feels good,” continues Makaay, who was active at Rangers as an assistant to Giovanni van Bronckhorst. “He is still a young boy, but he came in excellently today (Sunday, ed.). Defensively it was better.”

Marciano Vink is also pleased with Bassey’s substitution. “He came in and he brought exactly what Ajax needed. He had one assignment: to ensure that there was some peace at the back, because it was open house in the first half. He also often picked up Manhoef, he was the greatest danger at Vitesse . Except for one moment, Bassey knocked him out.”
