Major search yields no clues to missing man

Rotterdam – The Rotterdam cold case team has investigated an area in Hoogvliet into Adri Knops, who has now been missing for 23 years.

In July 2001, Mr Knops left his home in Spijkenisse in his car. His car was found not long afterwards in Hoogvliet. No one heard from him again. There have been several searches in 2001 and over the years, but unfortunately he has still not been found.

At the end of last year, Kelly de Vries from the Peter R. de Vries Foundation contacted us and asked whether anything else could be possible in this research. The investigation has never been closed, but we have again reviewed all available information. As a result, we selected an area where we really wanted to conduct thorough research again. The research also presented a unique opportunity. The water board went to drain an area near the Poortugaalse Haven for an inspection. This allowed us to conduct even more thorough research. Mr Knops’ car was found close to this area at the time. This search took into account the scenario in which he might have been fishing for eel in this area and he might have gone missing here. There are no indications that a crime has taken place.

The area was meticulously combed using, among other things, a drone and metal detectors. Unfortunately, this search did not yield any useful traces. The search has been completed.
