Leclerc 'very impressed' by team boss Vasseur: 'He immediately understood Ferrari'

Charles Leclerc is ‘very impressed’ by new team boss Frédéric Vasseur, he tells Motorsport.com. Vasseur has come over from Alfa Romeo and takes over from Mattia Binotto, who was previously the team principal of Ferrari. The Frenchman officially took up his position in January and Ferrari driver Leclerc is already very pleased with him.

After a promising but ultimately disappointing 2022 season, it was time for Ferrari to take a new path. With the appointment of Vasseur as the new team boss, they hope to take a step in the right direction. Ferrari driver Leclerc is impressed by his new team boss: ‘He introduced himself very nicely to the team’.

According to Leclerc, it is not always easy to join a new team, especially Ferrari. “It’s huge here, and Ferrari is different from other teams. But from the moment he (Vasseur, ed.) came to us, he understood within the first few days how Ferrari works,’ says Leclerc, who is positively looking forward to the collaboration. ‘He is clear and creates a good atmosphere, which is super important.’

What does the future at Ferrari hold for Leclerc?

Leclerc will fight for the world title again in 2023 together with his teammate Carlos Sainz. After a frustrating season in 2022, Leclerc was questioned about his contract with Ferrari. The Monegask thinks it is still too early to talk about a possible extension or departure, as he will still be driving at Ferrari for the next two seasons.

Things will be interesting on the grid from 2025, with a possible expiring contract for Leclerc at Ferrari, as well as Lewis Hamilton at Mercedes and Lando Norris at McLaren. Nevertheless, the 25-year-old indicates that he is not thinking too hard about it. “Two years is still a long way off,” said Leclerc, who first wants to focus on the coming season. “By then we’ll see what the best option is for me, but we’re not there yet.”
