Charles Leclerc thinks that the new circuit on the streets of Las Vegas suits the strengths of the SF-23 much better and the Ferrari driver can therefore hardly wait to put the circuit through its paces. In the gambling city, the 26-year-old Monegasque hopes to wash away the bad taste of the Grand Prix weekend in Brazil with a good result in the race.
A hydraulic problem on the warm-up lap meant Leclerc couldn’t even start and the five-time race winner had to watch the São Paulo Grand Prix from the sidelines. The Monegasque was visibly frustrated after his failure and he felt that he is always unlucky. Leclerc hopes for improvement in Las Vegas.
And there are certainly opportunities for the Ferrari driver, as the type of circuit in Las Vegas usually suits him. “I love street circuits,” says Leclerc in front of the camera at F1TV. ‘So I can’t wait to get to the track on Thursday and try this circuit. I have already driven a number of laps in the simulator, but the data is limited. Of course, we haven’t completed any ‘real’ laps on the circuit yet.’
Although the information is limited at the moment, Leclerc has noticed in the simulator that the circuit in Las Vegas suits him. ‘I enjoyed the virtual laps I did. I hope the track also suits our car well. On paper, this circuit would better suit the strengths of our car than the previous tracks. I hope that this will also lead to a good result on Saturday,” said Leclerc.
Nice circuit
So Leclerc is looking forward to the race weekend in Las Vegas, but what makes the circuit so much fun. The Ferrari driver explains. ‘To be honest, the circuit is more fun than I thought when I first looked at the layout. When you drive it, it’s actually quite interesting. I like the way the curves are made. It will be very interesting,” Leclerc thinks.
