Law firm Ficq & Partners is leaving the Marengo process

The lawyers of the Ficq & Partners firm are stopping the Marengo process. The counselors will no longer assist their three clients in the appeal. Lawyer Nico Meijering confirms this to the ANP. He would not further explain why the office dropped the defense.

Key witness

The law firm previously announced that it would no longer handle lawsuits in which a key witness plays a role. In the Marengo liquidation trial, key witness Nabil B. made incriminating statements about his co-suspects, including Mohamed R., who was sentenced to 27 years in prison after a life sentence. He was one of the clients of Ficq & Partners Advocaten. Two other suspects assisted by the office also received prison sentences of 23 years and four months and 5.5 years.

Appeal

The appeal in the Marengo trial will start on April 8 with a pro forma hearing. The hearings are held at the Schiphol Judicial Complex.

On February 27, 2024, Ridouan Taghi, Saïd Razzouki and Mario R. were sentenced to life in prison. The Public Prosecution Service had demanded six life sentences.
