Last suspect in Utrecht’s investigation into dating scams comes forward

Utrecht – At the end of 2023, the Utrecht police took a major step in an investigation into large-scale dating scams spread across the country. On December 5, eight arrests were made. Two other suspects have since been sought. With results. The last suspect reported himself to the police on Wednesday, February 7.

Dozens of elderly people have fallen victim to fraud and robbery via dating sites and apps in 2023. The police investigation led to several suspects from Utrecht. They deliberately targeted men in a higher age category and confiscated a lot of money and other valuables from them in a reprehensible manner. The police arrested eight of them on December 5. Five of them are currently still in custody. Three other suspects have been suspended, but remain suspects in the ongoing investigation.

Search for final suspects

Since then, the search for two other suspects has continued. One of them, a 19-year-old man, was tracked down in early January and arrested in Capelle aan de IJssel. The last suspect reported himself to the police station on Wednesday, February 7. The 27-year-old man was subsequently arrested. Both suspects are currently still in custody.
