A large fire broke out on the site of waste processor Renewi in the Westelijk Havengebied in Amsterdam on Sunday evening. The fire brigade advises people who are bothered by the smoke to close windows and doors, NH News reports. No people were injured.

The fire was first reported to the fire service at around 10:10 p.m. He then came with many vehicles to the Renewi building on Kajuitweg. According to a bystander, a lot of smoke can be seen blowing in the direction of Sloterdijk. According to the fire service, this is a mountain of industrial waste in a shed, it is unclear how it caught fire.

A little after midnight reported the Amsterdam fire brigade that the fire was under control. During the rest of the night, the industrial waste is wheeled outside the shed with shovels, where it can be extinguished. The emergency services expect to be working on this for a long time.

It is certainly not the first time that a fire has broken out at the waste processing company. In 2019, for example, smoke could be seen as far as Utrecht after a fire at Renewi, a major fire also started in 2021 and in 2022 a fire raged for hours.
