A large fire has raged on an industrial estate in Westzaan (North Holland). It broke up at the beginning of the evening; in the middle of the night, the fire brigade reported that the fire was under control.
About a hundred firefighters, aided by cranes twenty meters high, engaged in extinguishing work. A drone was also used to get an overview of the fires.
The fire raged in a storage of a cocoa company on the Achterspring. Three buildings belonging to the same company had caught fire. A lot of smoke was released and people in the area received an NL-Alert several times warning them to close windows and doors. As far as is known, no people were injured.
The Zaanstreek-Waterland Security Region announced at the end of the evening that extinguishing the fire will take a long time. “Burning cocoa beans are difficult to extinguish.” At around 3 a.m., the fire was reported to be under control.
