'Justice knew earlier about lawyer Youssef Taghi's involvement with criminal cousin'

Years before he ended up in the EBI, police and justice had information that lawyer Youssef Taghi may have been involved in the criminal organization of his relative Ridouan. Follow The Money (FTM) reports this on Thursday.

Information

The investigation website Follow the Money writes that it has ‘new information’, which shows that years before Youssef Taghi reported to him as a lawyer at the EBI, had concrete information about his possible involvement in the criminal organization of his cousin Ridouan Taghi. .

She did not share the information that the judiciary would have had with the director of the EBI.

Access

In December 2020, Youssef Taghi requested access to his cousin Ridouan, in the Extra Secure Institution (EBI) in Vught. From March 2021, he was given that access and visited the EBI dozens of times. This led to a lot of fuss, including the decision to no longer allow lawyers to bring laptops into the institution.

The Public Prosecution Service (OM) states that from 2020 it has been working to keep Youssef away from his criminal family. However, according to FTM, that is now not the case.

Snack bar

Follow The Money bases its story on police documents, which reveal that Youssef had worked for a while at a snack bar, which was later defaced by Taghi’s competitors. In 2018 they sprayed the text: ‘Los pepes. War’ at the snack bar. The owner reports this to the police. He also says that he lives at the same address as Youssef Taghi. The police also linked a so-called secret telephone number of Youssef Taghi to the location of the snack bar several times.

In December 2020, it turned out that there were also license plates of cars in Youssef’s name, which could be traced back to Taghi’s group. One of the occupants of the car is Oussama B., who is suspected of having been involved in the liquidation of counsel Derk Wiersum, in 2019. He was the lawyer of key witness Nabil B., in the case against Ridouan Taghi.

Nabil B.’s lawyer, Peter Schouten, is outraged about the case on Twitter: ‘Well, my clog really breaks. A secret-keeper phone linked to a snack bar? What will the Dutch Safety Board (OVV) also discover in the future? And: ‘The big question is, of course, whether the Public Prosecution Service informed the dean under which Mr. Taghi came in time that his secret holder number was linked to a dubious snack bar.’
